Refrigerant Recovery Certification

... to protect human health and the environment

Our promise, commitment & legal obligation as a type 1 certified refrigerant recovery technician is to properly recover & capture refrigerant to ensure minimal CFC, HCFC or HFC refrigerant is vented to the atmosphere during any maintaining, servicing, repairing or disposal any small appliance that has refrigerant.
Why be concerned about release of refrigerant to the atmosphere?
The wide spread use of CFC refrigerants began in the early 1930's. For the next forty years, little or no thought was given to the possibility that CFC's might pose a threat to the environment. Extensive research has confirmed that stratospheric ozone depletion is taking place. When ozone depletion occurs more UV radiation penetrates to the earths surface and health and environmental risks increase. The ozone layer is essential to the well being of most living things. The most common effect of increased UV radiation is a rise in skin cancer occurrences.
Whether or not we personally accept CFC's as an environmental threat is irrelevant. Scientific evidence supports that it is and as long as the possibility of a threat exists, we have a responsibility to react.
A few facts...
As of 1996 R-134a refrigerant replaced R-12 and has been used in
the sealed-systems of small appliances produced in North America production
R-134A & R-12 are not compatible. Even the slightest
trace of chlorine is enough to cause premature failure of a R-134a sealed
system.
No person may open a small appliance for repair, service
or maintenance unless the person has been certified as a type 1 or universal
technician. November 14, 1994 is the effective date for mandatory
certification.
The Clean Air Act requires that the production of CFC's be
discontinued after December 31, 1995.
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) R-12 & Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) R-134a are used in refrigerators & freezers.
As a concerned consumer you can play an important role in
contributing in the protection of the ozone in many ways. Below are just a few
ways...
Ensure your appliance technician don't vent CFC & HFC
refrigerant to
the environment as CFC refrigerant contributes to the depletion of the ozone.
Repair leaks in your refrigerator so
that CFC or HFC refrigerant doesn't leak to the environment.
Hire trained & certified technicians to properly remove & capture refrigerant to your state and federal mandates as well as EPA & U.S. Clean Air Act.
Refrigerant Recovery Certification
Mikes Appliance Repair has successfully completed the
AHAM-NARDA Refrigerant Recovery Certification Program & has been certified as a
type 1 technician. This certificate confirms successful passage of a test to
demonstrate knowledge of refrigerant recovery, as required by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
